I haven’t been sharing my colouring work for a while. So I thought I would show you what I’ve been up to. In my last colouring update (5#)  in July, I mentioned that I bought quite a few new books on my holiday, plus I had a few more from my last colouring book haul that I hadn’t started. So I challenged myself to colouring one page in all (or most) of my new books before I do anymore book reviews.

These pages are not in order from when I coloured them, just what I have photographed so far. These first four are from Fantasia, Forest Girl’s Coloring Book, Dromenvanger and Botanicum. I still have more pages from Mythomorphia, Smyckeskrinet and Momo Girl coming up in a future post. I haven’ t decided what book I will focus on after completing this challenge, since I actually bought a few more books recently, which I will also show in a future post. I wish I had more time for colouring and blogging, but this last month has been hectic with uni assignments and a potent respiratory virus. I’m hoping to get back on track in the next couple of weeks when everything calms down.

By the way, I have recently reorganised my Colouring Book Galleries and Colouring Book Reviews. They are now easier to see and access and are under my Colour tab on the menu bar. All new completed pages will be place in gallery of the book they come from, which may not appear in previous book reviews  you may of seen.

 

Fantasia

So I know I already showed you this picture in my last colouring update but I decided to add it again since it is part of this challenge. It is from the Fantasia Anti-Stress Adult Coloring Book (3rd US Edition) by Indonesian artist, Nichola F. Chandrawienata. I used Prismacolor Premier pencils and a white gel pen for a couple of details. I really wanted to her look like a Night elf from World of Warcraft from Darnassus. So if you a player or an ex-player you will understand what I’m talking about. It took me quite a while to colour this picture, not just because I choose every colour for every element very carefully, but also because I used light layers of Prismacolor and a white pencil to blend. I really don’t like white specking coming through on the paper and on this paper it took quite a while to colour. However, I do love this paper for coloured pencil and I can’t wait to do a few more from this book. There are quite a few pictures that look like WOW characters, so I’m looking forward to getting to those pages. Another great thing about this book is that it’s single-sided so I would like to also try other media besides pencil.

 

Forest Girl

This picture is from Forest Girl’s Coloring Book by Korean artist, Aeppol. I was a bit intimidate to start this book, as the line art is so faint and tiny. All of the line art pictures do have the corresponding completed picture of the artwork. So I thought for my first picture I would use the same colours as the original artwork, Your Shelter. I only used Prismacolor Premier pencils and a Prismacolor blender for the background.

I did find this picture a bit challenging to colour, just because main of the elements in the picture were very tiny. I also found the Primacolor a little difficult to blend on this paper, but overall I’m happy with it.

 

Dromenvanger

This next picture is from the book that I purchased for my birthday this year. Dromenvanger is by Croatian Artist, Tomislav Tomic. I was so excited when I finally got this book, because its very hard to get hold off in Australia. I was one of the unlucky people that didn’t get their preordered copy from Book depository around Christmas time. So when I saw it on ebay I thought it was worth paying a bit more since it was my birthday.

The line art in this book is just magnificent and it was hard to choose a picture. I decided on this one because it only took up a single page and I didn’t want to take forever colouring two pages. Again I used Primacolor Premier pencils, which worked really well on this high quality paper. I really enjoyed colouring this picture. I am quite happy with everything, except for the background. I can’t wait to return to this book to bring some of the pages to life.

 

Botanicum

The last picture I have for you today is the newest book by Swedish artist, Maria Trolle, Botanicum. I bought this book in Sweden recently and I just love it. I chose a page that I thought would be relatively quick to complete. I use my Prismacolor Premier pencils again for this page, as well as a little bit of silver and white gel pen for a couple of details.

I decided to colour this young lady’s skin a little darker shade, since I usually go for paler skintones. I find darker skin harder to colour because the layers often start to leave some streaky marks. But because she is so small, I was about do get a slightly better result. I coloured the flowers true to life, since there are the names in the back of the book. I am really happy how the picture turned out and looking forward to returning to this book as well.
